OUR VISION

"Read in the name of your Lord" (96/1)
Our name IQRA, which means "Read!" or “Recite!” in Arabic, very well summarizes our vision. It is the first word, the first command and the first verse revealed to our beloved Prophet, Muhammad (peace be upon him). As we are ordained to "read/recite in the name of our Lord" so shall we do.
The first thing that the beloved Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h) did in Mad?na was to build a masjid, Masjid al-Nabaw?, and establish a community around it. Iqra Masjid is founded to follow the model of the Masjid of the Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h). In doing that, Iqra has adopted the subtitle "Community and Tradition" to emphasize their importance since Muslims cannot live without a proper community built upon the tradition of the Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h.). As stated in a hadith, the Prophet (p.b.u.h) said: “I leave behind me two things: the Qur'an and my tradition, the Sunnah. If you follow these, you will never go astray”.

OUR MISSION

IQRA MASJID aims to be a community center of Islamic teaching and learning for Muslims and Non-Muslims, men and women, from all ages, ethnic, national, socioeconomic and linguistic backgrounds. Our ultimate purpose is to promote and advance Islamic principles, practices and beliefs in the pursuit of exercising them in our daily lives.
For achieving this overarching mission, we are planning first to buy a permanent building to accommodate our masjid and to open a full-time, high quality Islamic School with qualified teachers and accredited curriculum that meets the religious and academic needs of our children.
IQRA MASJID seeks the support of concerned individuals and other organizations to help us realize these monumental projects -projects that are urgently needed for the Muslim community of Brooklyn.
